North Wales Clinical School

Clinical Education at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd, St Asaph

Location

  • Being in the middle of North Wales carries geographical advantage. To the west, the hospital is within easy striking distance of the stunning beauty of Snowdonia and the beaches of Anglesey. You can be at the foot of awe-inspiring mountains 40 minutes after leaving work on a summer’s evening, or out on the Anglesey beaches within an hour. To the east, it is only 30 minutes to Chester whilst Liverpool and Manchester are one hour away. The leisure facilities in the local area include a huge variety of sports, with three gyms in Rhyl, theatre, cinema and cultural activities plus a wide range of restaurants, pubs and clubs.  There are direct trains to London and Cardiff.
  • The surrounding area offers attractions such as the impressive castles along the north Wales coast. The nearby city of St Asaph is home to the smallest cathedral in Britain and at Bodelwyddan you can visit the amazing marble church.  Conwy is renowned for its mediaeval castle and almost complete town walls.  With its unique combination of Victorian style and Edwardian elegance, Llandudno is the largest holiday resort in Wales with two superb beaches.  Dubbed the Queen of Welsh resorts, it stands on a peninsula jutting out into the Irish Sea, between the twin headlands of the Great Orme and Little Orme.  For the best views you can reach the summit of the 679ft Great Orme using either the Great Orme Tramway, the longest cable operated tramway in Britain, or by taking a cable car ride of over a mile.  Llandudno is also home to a 300 meter, dry ski slope and toboggan run and to a Bronze Age mining system beneath the Orme.  And, of course, the Snowdonia National Park is only a short drive away, with its fantastic scenery and outdoor opportunities.  For those who would prefer not to walk to the top of Snowdon, there is the Snowdon mountain railway.
