North Wales Clinical School

Courses at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor

Opportunities after graduation

  • Since significant numbers of medical students began to train in North Wales, 90% of junior doctor posts are now filled by Cardiff University graduates (compared to 1999 when the number of placements was very small and all the Trusts had great difficulty in filling these posts).  It would therefore seem that students who come to North Wales and Ysbyty Gwynedd in particular for one of their clinical attachments like what they see and many return to Bangor to take up an F1 post.
  • The Education Centre re-opened following full refurbishment in 2002 and is one of the leading postgraduate centres, providing an active centre for learning and the development of hospital and community doctors.  The Centre houses a 140-seat state of the art lecture theatre and also has five seminar rooms, featuring fully integrated AV systems.  The interactive facilities vary between the rooms but include such features as interactive  Smartboards, LCD wall mounted projectors and  video conferencing facilities. • Teaching takes place daily in the Education Centre and a wide range of topics are covered from many different departments of the hospital including Anaesthetics, the Emergency Department and General Surgery.
